Stupid Gnats

Our kitchen has been invaded by gnats. Or rather fruit flies I guess you would call them. Apparently someone left some rotting fruit out in the garage, and the gnats that were attracted to that made it into our house. Now they congregate on our food bar, hang around the trash, and about every other bite you take you have to swat one or two out of your way. Plus when you're trying to eat it's really gross seeing big congregations of gnats all around you. *sigh* Oh well. All I can say is though if someone ever leaves rotting fruit out in the garage again, well let's just say they're in trouble. =]

Went to get a dress yesterday for my homeschool group's end of year social tomorrow night. Sure the whole event can be a little boring at times, (at least it was last year), but this is one of the only times I get to see my homeschool friends so I am going. =] Plus I'm going to get my money's worth out of my new dress which let's just say wasn't on the cheap side.....I'll let you know how it all goes.

Movies and Math Tests

*The good news is that today I finally finished my geometry. The bad news is that I have a not so good feeling about the final exam I took this morning. I'm trying to think on the brightside. After all, lots of times when you think you've done really bad it turns out being not half as bad as you thought. Still, I'm extremely nervous about what the results will be. From bisectors that just wouldn't turn out straight, to angles with not-so-clear relationships, this test was no picnic. Oh well. Might as well not worry about it now seeing as how there's nothing I can do about it.....

*I finally got to see the new Indiana Jones movie, and I quite enjoyed it. I actually hadn't expected it to live up to the standard of the earlier ones, but it really did. It sure didn't lack for any action (some scenes had me munching popcorn quite nervously), but it also had a lot of humor. Plus the actors were great. Harrison Ford's age sure didn't keep him down (he took out quite a few people let me tell you...) and the new "young" guy was really good as well. So overall a great movie. I highly recommend it. Now I just have to see Narnia and I'll be happy. =]

Non-Verbal Communication

Since really nothing is going on right now, I thought I'd share a little thing I did for school this year. It's examples of non-verbal communcation. Kind of interesting I thought. ehe

The man smiled, but an uncomfortable expression lingered across his eyes. He leisurely draped his arm across the shoulders of the crying woman as if to comfort her, but his motions seemed stiff and forced and his arm looked very tight. After a few seconds he hurriedly removed his arm and brushed it absentmindedly across his shirt as if trying to remove something repulsive.

"Of course I’m not mad at you," Maggie remarked to me, her voice slightly dropping off at the end. She smiled at me, but her eyes looked like slits and seemed to bore into my head. She gave me a friendly thwack on the arm that stung and lasted much longer than it should have.

Sarah laughed a little too loudly at my suggestion. "Of course I don’t like him, silly!" she protested. "What a ridiculous idea!" Her cheeks had gone very red and she began picking her fingernails very earnestly. "So what did you think about that dessert huh?" she asked, hurriedly changing the subject. As we began to speak of this new subject, Sarah’s uptight expression vanished and she sank tiredly into a chair, an expression of pure relief on her face. She looked at anywhere but Dave for the rest of the evening.

The minute Steve walked into the room, James seemed to stiffen. He continued his barrage of light talking and bantering, but when Steve sat next to him he appeared to turn his chair about a fraction of an inch away from Steve. His hands kept balling into fists under the table and occasionally expressions of annoyance would flicker across his face. When Steve spoke to him he spoke back and smiled, but the smile seemed forced and his muscles were taught the whole time he spoke with Steve.

"Whatever," said Catherine indifferently, shrugging her shoulders. "It doesn’t bother me at all." She smiled at me, but her face had gone very red and a small tear trickled down her cheek. As if angry with herself, she swiftly rubbed her finger across her eye and muttered something about allergies. During the whole conversation she had her hands stuffed firmly in her pockets as if she were trying to contain herself.

A Few Things

*Last Thursday I finally finished school. Well all except geometry. I still have to take two tests for that unruly subject. However, other than that I am completely free and it feels good I can tell you. =] The odd thing is so far this week when I'm "supposed" to be sleeping in, I've been waking up rather early. Tell me how that makes sense.....Oh well.

*My parents were on a conference this week, and now they (and my mom's health schemes) are back in full force. haha. Our grandparents came, and they're here till Saturday so we're having quite a good time with them. They let us eat store bought bread after all. ;) Not like that's a huge deal though seeing as how my mom's homemade is tons better. ehe.

*I found one of my old journals this morning from about a year or so ago, and I almost blew myself away. (Figuratively of course). It's really funny how your priorities and really everything in your life can totally change in such a short time. However, you also learn that some things just never change.

*One more thing. Last week my dad got me the book The Host by Stephanie Meyer (the lady who authored the vampire books). The book started out kind of hard to follow and a tad bit boring (to me at least) not to mention creepy. I mean aliens being inserted into human bodies?! But once I got going I could absolutely not stop. This book might be creepy, but it is dang good and actually presents a great moral message. The characters also became very endearing, and all I can say is with this book Meyer's done it again.

Trailers

Some trailers for some good movies (or at least I hope they'll be good) coming out this year.

Prince Caspian; bound to be good simply because it's Narnia and it's based on a book by C.S. Lewis. I bawled my eyes out at the first one.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=sqThuoO6qQw

Indiana Jones; it has Harrison Ford in it. 'Nough said.

Twilight based on the book by Stephanie Meyer. One of my favorite books ever. Truly riveting, and I never wanted to put it down. =] Hope they stay true to the books. Nothing worse then when a movie ruins a good book.

A Few Things

*Last Wednesday at church our organist told me she had seen me on TV. Now for just a second I started freaking out. I mean why the in the world would I be on TV?! And then I remembered. The people at the piano/voice recital had said someone was filming this for the local news station. Oh great. Now the whole county got to see me perform....I'll just have to hope most people weren't interested enough to tune it. ehe. Anyways, after that she dropped another bombshell by saying, "I didn't know you played piano. You need to play in church sometime." This was the last thing I wanted to hear. I got nervous enough when I had to sing in church, but playing the piano is a totally different matter. So many more disastrous things could happen, plus I really really hate playing in front of crowds. (Hey I'd probably be nervous playing in front of two people). So hopefully either she'll get really busy and forget to mention it to our choir director or she'll get amnesia or something and it'll never cross her mind again....Okay I'll hope for option one. =]

*My dad had another one of his biweekly treatments today, and so far those seem to be going well. They had a little mix up with the doctors earlier (he goes to two different places) as one doctor said they were in charge of his treatment, while the nurse of the doctor we thought wasn't in charge said they were in charge of his treatment. (It's never good to get caught between two doctors you know.) But we got it all straightened out and I guess it was just one of those big misunderstandings....

1 1/2

The countdown to the end of school continues. I have 1 1/2 more weeks left in everything except my achille's heel....*dun dun dun* geometry. My hatred of this subject grows by the second. Not only do I have 3-4 more lessons left, but I also have a unit test plus a end of year exam that covers the whole dang book. My grades are fair on the tests, (some much better than others I'll say that), but if I want to get an A let's just say I have to kick butt on the unit and end of year tests....*sigh* oh well hopefully it will work out. Plus the lesson I'm on now is crazy. It's transformation geometry which involves grids and drawing things. I have to use a ruler every single time because I absolutely cannot (under any circumstances) draw a straight line without it. I am seriously challenged when it comes to stuff like that.....haha.

Well enough math ranting for now. I'm least I'm doing good on biology. =]

Me and My Miserable Night

Last night I went to bed at about the usual time, actually pretty tired. I was sure I would go right to sleep, but of course everytime I think that it normally turns out exactly the opposite. This time it certainly did. For the life of me I just could not go to sleep. I tried everything. I tried counting to 1,000 in my head, but I didn't get very far cause it was pretty dang boring and my mind kept wandering. I tried sleeping in about every position possible (except upside down) and tried relaxing every muscle in my body. That didn't work too well either.

When I finally did nod off (I had no clue how long it took me to do so) I had one of those horrible nightmares where you try to scream but your voice is dead and all that comes out is a thin croaking sound. I jolted awake from that at about 2:30 AM I believe, and had to lie there for a few minutes and remind myself that it was just a dream. (I was starting to freak out at this point a bit). I started to freak out even more when, try as I might, I just couldn't go back to sleep. The thing with sleep, is the more you think about it the lower your chances are of dropping off to sleep. I knew this very well but I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that I was getting hardly any sleep and that if I didn't nod off soon I was going to be a zombie come the morning. By this time I was starting to feel sort of nauseous, and that made me panic even more because a stomach bug's going around. (If you hadn't noticed this by now I am very prone to panic attacks). To top it all off I started getting really itchy, dry skin so every few seconds I had to interrupt trying to go to sleep to scratch it.

By this time I was getting really annoyed, and was starting to get kind of hyper. So I got out of bed and went to look at the hall clock, which unfortunately read 3:15 AM. I was about ready to jump through the roof in frustration, but of course that really wouldn't help my problem any so I refrained from that. I finally started back to my room, but on the way back rammed into the door (seeing as how it was really dark) causing a rather loud noise I was really worried everyone would wake up and think there were burglars around or something, but I waited anxiously a few minutes and no one did. Soo I crawled back in bed and lay there for a while trying not to think about not being able to go to sleep, and finally I dozed off. I have no clue how much sleep I actually got, but maybe more than I think since I'm actually not too tired right now. But I'm not exactly real hyper either I'll say that....Hopefully tonight will be better. It can't be much worse.

Nancy Drew

Saw the new Nancy Drew movie on paperview a few weeks ago and thought I'd give a review for it.

In the movie, Nancy Drew goes to California with her father and moves into a creepy old house that of course has a mystery involved. She discovers it was the home of a movie actress who disappeared for 9 months and then was strangely murdered. Though Nancy tries to please her father and be a "normal" non-sleuthing teenage girl, she doesn't fit in well with her high school crowd and soon turns right back to the mystery with the help of her new young friend Corky. Soon her friend Ned from back home in River Heights comes to join her, and the three attempt to uncover the murderer of the actress (as well as her daughter), all while trying to escape attempts on their lives.

I have to say I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I thought they would ruin the character of Nancy Drew (as newfangled movies often do), but they kept pretty true to her through the whole thing (though her exploits were a bit cheesy at times). I mean what girl carries around all the equipment she does? But hey she is Nancy Drew after all...The movie also had a lot of humor to it, the actors were well cast, and the plot twists weren't overly obvious or predictable. All in all I give this movie 4 stars out of 5.
